Safe Sleep Initiative

Massachusetts NICU Safe Sleep Practices Collaborative

The NeoQIC Safe Sleep Practices Improvement initiative was launched in 2015 with the goal of improving safe sleep practices for high risk infants in the neonatal intensive care units throughout the state.  The project aim is to increase the percentage of eligible infants engaging in safe sleep practices in Massachusetts NICUs to 90% by 2017.  The project is built around sharing practices and resources, using collaborative learning to identify barriers and develop solutions, and standardizing policies and definitions.  A weekly audit is used to measure process and outcome measures.  Two summits per year along with two webinars per year guide the project and bring participating teams together.
